Youth & Kids Martial arts in Northeast Minneapolis

Li’l Ninjas(Ages 4-6)

The Li’l Ninjas children’s martial arts class caters to kids interested in karate, tae kwon do, or other martial arts while teaching them basic martial arts skills with an emphasis on focus, respect, listening, discipline, and confidence.

This program has it’s own belt system that help prepare students for the Future Champions program when they turn 7.

What’s it all about?

At MN Karate & Fitness we teach children basic tools to help them learn martial arts when they get older, and the benefits of life skills. We plan our curriculum each week to include a theme that not only helps students develop their basic martial arts, but really hones in on the skills they will need for life.

Each week our drills, games, and activities are coordinated to help students earn curriculum strips & earn their next belt rank. This helps develop habits of focus, listening, and self discipline while they get better at their martial arts. Some drills will combine listening and coordination or strength, while others might enhance focus and memory.

We’ve developed 100’s of drills that help make each class unique, engage the class, and keep things fun (because that’s how children learn best!) Through top-level curriculum and individualized teaching, students gain valuable life skills that follow them into a successful adulthood. They’ll learn how to set goals for themselves while building confidence, self-discipline and respect.

Future Champions – Kids Martial Arts (Ages 7-12)

This kids martial arts program is designed for kids 7-12. Students will learn the fundamentals of martial arts and apply them to traditional forms, sparring, and weapons. Our kids martial arts students develop advanced martial arts skills while still having a fun and rewarding experience.

What Do We Teach?

Our unique kids martial arts curriculum for the Future Champions is a combination of Boxing, and American Tae Kwon Do, and Muay Thai. This “mixed martial art” gives students the practical self-defense that helps build confidence, while creating well-rounded martial artists.
Sometimes referred to as “sport karate”, we also incorporate competitive elements for local and national martial arts tournaments that includes traditional and creative form, as well as point sparring and kickboxing. These students will also learn to use the Bo Staff, Kama, and Nunchaku (nunchuks), depending on where their interest leads them. This really helps stretch your child’s’ creative abilities, improves their physical limits, and elevates their knowledge and ability in martial arts.

What Do We Mean by “Quality Martial Arts”?

Unfortunately there’s no set standard for martial arts instruction… This means most people never really know until its too late whether or not their child is learning something of value. At MN Karate & Fitness, we take pride in developing top level competitors and well-rounded martial artists. We have a rich history in training and being trained by top level competitors at all belt ranks.

More importantly, we take time to understand each individual students needs and work tirelessly to help each student succeed in the way that suits them best. Each child is unique, and each child learns differently. We combine audible, visual, and physical instruction to incorporate as many senses as possible to help each student in the class learn the way they know best.

By creating engaging drills and activities, students are more engaged and therefore remember more of the drill. This works equally as well for our mat chats and our focus, confidence, and various life skills activities as it does for their martial arts development.

Is MN Karate & Fitness for You?

We back each and every trial with a 100% Money Back Guarantee, because we want you to know you made the best decision.

For the Athlete: MN Karate & Fitness will help foster amazing cross-training for other sports and activities while giving your child an outlet to be competitive through sport karate tournaments.

For the Artistic Child: Students will have several opportunities to hone their skills and “make it theirs” through creative forms and weapons to help them express themselves any way they want.

For the Shy Child: Martial arts offers a great chance for students to make lifelong friends. Because we practice in such a live environment kids will have fun getting to know each other and competing, testing, or just plain working out together.

For the “ADD Child”: Martial arts offers focus, and an outlet for all that extra energy. Through practice children learn to control their attention and develop self-discipline… I know this, because that’s the very reason my parents started me on my journey in martial arts 17 years ago!

Leadership Development

Our Future Champions will have an opportunity to demonstrate through classroom instruction and leadership everything they’ve gained from their training at MN Karate & Fitness. Leadership students will not only assist in classroom instruction, but will take on leadership responsibilities at home, at school, and during community events.

Clear Focus – In martial arts, we have kids do one thing at a time. For younger kids, and kids with severe ADD, they may only do one thing for 30 seconds – but for that 30 seconds that’s all they focus on.

Then, the better and better they get at focusing, the longer we have them focus for. Eventually, kids might focus the entire session on just one exercise or activity.

And they never get bored or antsy.

Before you know it, they do this at home too. They focus on their homework… on their chores… on conversations with you… and anything else they put their mind to.

Determined to Succeed – From Day 1 in martial arts your child sets goals, and accomplishes them. The more and more he does this – the more ambitious he becomes.

Eventually he learns to set higher goals – and he learns to go after them with everything he’s got.

Students learn that fulfillment and respect are earned through completing challenges.

Because of this, kids who go through martial arts are much more likely to succeed later in life as well. A recent study showed that 63% of black belts become college graduates!

They then go on to live wonderful, fulfilling lives. And then they pass these principles onto their own children.

Finally Paying Attention – Parents of children with attention problems breathe sighs of relief after just a few short weeks.

That’s because in martial arts – we teach kids to look people in the eyes when they’re being spoken to. We teach them that this is how you show people you’re listening, and paying attention.

After just a few short weeks, kids naturally begin doing this at home. And in school.

Parents and teachers often look at each other with wide-eyes when they reflect on the changes. They can’t believe how much better their children pay attention.

Completing Tasks the First Time He’s Asked – In martial arts, we have just a few simple rules. One of those rules is that when your child is asked to do something – he does it the first time.

We never yell at kids, or scold them, if they don’t do this. But every kid does it because he sees the other kids in the class doing it too. And he wants to make friends and be a part of the group.

It’s usually a matter of a couple weeks before kids start doing this at home, too. I can’t tell you how many parents have thanked me profusely when it starts to happen.

For parents of children who have a hard time following directions – this is truly a blessing.

Self-Respect – When it comes to bullies, kids in martial arts don’t back down. They have the confidence to look a bully in the eyes, and stand their ground.

This is what nearly always happens…

The bully gets scared and backs down!

It happens 9 times out of 10. And for the 1 time out of 10 the bully doesn’t back down – your child has the tools to defend themselves. And if necessary,  be able to get away, and seek out an authority figure.

Most confrontations can be talked through. Occasionally, however, words aren’t enough. For either situation your child will be prepared.

No one will be able to hurt them, or take anything away from them.

Weight loss – It’s easy these days for kids to not exercise. As a result, many children experience weight problems at a young age.

Martial Arts is an amazing form of exercise – Your child will be active the entire time. But there’s no pressure on them to do anything they can’t.

We’ll encourage your child to do their best – but this isn’t boot camp or anything.

Most Importantly, they’ll have fun!

And if he/she happens to be overweight – martial arts will help them get down to a healthy weight. This reduces risk for many health problems that can occur now, and later on in life.

Kids martial arts also increases energy, alertness, and overall happiness. They’ll never feel better!

There are honestly countless other
benefits kids get with martial arts.

But rather than tell you about them myself –

just listen to what these parents had to say…

Honestly, I am completely blown away by these folks. As someone that doesn’t have a natural knack with little kids (although I have 2), I can’t believe how amazing these instructors are with them. There is an older gentleman that teaches who is part drill sergeant and part Mother Theresa with the kids, including my son, and I could watch him all day brilliantly maneuver the students with complete kindness and firmness. I wish he gave parenting lessons as well as karate lessons! My son needed some firm structure, an energy outlet, and work on developing focus and balance, and these are all things prioritized in class. As a resident Nordeaster, I am feeling so lucky that these folks are in the neighborhood. Super affordable, very convenient class schedule, and amazing instructors. Welcome to the Neighborhood, MN K & F!!!!

My son, Bryan, has been going for about a year now. He loves it and it’s a great way to burn off his excess energy. He has learned so much that I think I may try classes here myself. I feel like the staff here is so awesome and very good with the kids. I will always recommend this facility above all others when asked! You guys are awesome!!! Thank you so much!

The instructors here are amazing! I have been attending adult classes for several months, and everyone here is encouraging while expecting you to push yourself to do your best. I’ve never felt more empowered, and coming really helps with focus. Plus, they always give me a great workout!

Ladies – in addition to the great male instructors leading the school, there are a couple of female instructors which have helped me specifically understand how my body needs to move. These folks are VERY accommodating and friendly to women (really everyone of any variety), so don’t think this is just for the guys!

MN Karate & Fitness sets a high bar with the kids while teaching with compassion and meeting each kid where they’re at. The staff is top notch and my kid loves going.

The teaching is always age appropriate and above all else, fun fun fun! I’m familiar with the classes for the 3-5 year olds and the kiddos are always so energized and pumped after each class. The positive and supportive vibe of all the instructors is really evident in how much the kids love attending and how great they feel after a class. They all have endless patience and treat the children with respect and compassion while appropriately demanding respect and good listening/focus at all times. The karate skills taught are just the tip of the iceberg as so many great life long fitness and self-defense techniques have been a part of the instruction. It’s a great group of teachers, students and parents — no complaints from this parent! It’s been a great experience all around!

My 5 year old daughter has been attending classes for almost a month and we are all loving it! The teachers are amazing! The first teachers in any extra curricular activity that have actually been able to connect with her and get good reviews. She is looking forward to attending everyday. I love it that the class times work with our family’s schedule AND that they occur more than once a week. My daughter has a hard time with impulses, can be shy at times, and has a hard time focusing – we have already seen small changes in her behavior since starting karate at MN Karate and Fitness & believe it will continue to improve as she strengthens her skills.
Edit one year later: I can definitely tell the difference between days and weeks when she goes to karate and doesn’t go. I have also started adult classes and it has been a great experience for me as well.

Just finished the Brock Turner beat down self defense class, it was amazing. I feel like the instruction was very clear and I got a lot of practice. The instructors were very passionate about what they were teaching and made me feel safe. I would highly recommend this class to any woman with any skill/fitness level. Thank you for offering this class, and making it free!

Great instructors, my son has become so disciplined and they are great with the kids!!!!

We LOVE MN Karate and Fitness! I have a son that has a sensory input disorder, Mr. Pallesen and Mr. Froemming have been amazing with him! His behavior at school and home has improved since starting classes, and he has become more focused and adventurous as well He wants to go everyday and is bummed out when we can’t go. I taught dance for many years and am throughly impressed with all the instructors at the school in both the way that they teach, and the way interact with my son.

Lliterally life changing for my daughter…

Robin M.

MN Karate and Fitness has been wonderful for our 5 year old boy who had teachers telling us that he has issues with focus and concentration. Their curriculum is geared to help his age group with concentration, focus, motivation and memory along with fitness and being active. The instructors are fantastic and they keep adding wonderful people to their team. We moved away from the area and make the effort to drive out of our way just for the quality and care they give our son. They are worth it!!!

Cassie L.

The program is 1st rate! The instructors really care about the kids learning not just “putting in the time”.
Highly recommend
